When paid media and SEO should work together

Paid media and SEO often meet the same customer at different moments. Planning them together can give your team a clearer view of demand, messages and the pages that need improvement.

Give each channel a clear job

Start with the commercial objective. A service business may need more qualified enquiries in selected Auckland suburbs. An online retailer may need profitable sales from a particular product range. Decide what organic search and paid activity can each contribute before splitting the budget.

Paid search can test selected offers and messages while organic content develops. SEO can help answer the detailed questions people research before they are ready to buy. Neither channel removes the need for a useful landing page and a clear enquiry or checkout process.

Share what customers are telling you

Review search terms, Search Console queries, landing-page behaviour and sales feedback together. A high-volume query is not automatically commercially valuable. A smaller topic may deserve attention if it consistently leads to suitable enquiries.

Keep the interpretation honest. Ad clicks do not directly improve organic rankings. Strong paid results also do not prove that the same message will work equally well for organic visitors, who may have different needs.

Agree how success will be measured

Use consistent definitions for an enquiry, a qualified lead and a sale. Compare channel reporting with the actual records of what the business received. Avoid adding every platform's claimed conversions together as though each were a different customer.

Our starting point is a shared plan: the audience, the offer, the role of each channel and the evidence needed for the next decision.
