How Auckland businesses should think about AI search
AI search gives people another way to compare businesses, understand a problem and shortlist options. For an Auckland business, the useful question is where customers need clearer information before they enquire.
Start with the questions customers actually ask
Look at enquiries, sales conversations and site-search data. What do people ask about pricing, service areas, delivery, suitability or the work involved? Turn recurring questions into clear answers on the relevant service pages. A helpful answer explains the conditions and trade-offs, rather than promising the same result for everyone.
Make the business easy to understand
Use consistent business details. Explain what you do, who you help and where you operate. Add accurate author information and evidence you can stand behind. For a local service, useful detail might include the Auckland areas covered, a real example of the work, and what happens after an enquiry.
Keep the technical basics in order too. Important information should be accessible as text, pages should link logically, and search engines need access to the pages you want discovered. Google's guidance on AI features is a useful starting point for understanding eligibility and content considerations.
Measure useful outcomes
Track enquiries and their quality alongside search visibility and referral traffic. Keep a consistent set of relevant questions for occasional manual checks, but treat those checks as a snapshot. They are not a complete measure of how often a business appears in AI answers.
SEO, AEO and GEO should support the same objective: helping the right customer understand and choose your business. No agency can guarantee a particular AI recommendation.
